Yet another newby. I'm a 53 year old recently retired racer. I sold my R6 racebike and currently have a 04' Suzuki SV1000s steet/trackday bike which I am getting along well with. After about 2,000 miles its time to do some suspension work and since I have access to an 02 gsxr6000 Penske shock I wonder if anyone knows if they are in any way usable on the SV? In the "Shock Sale" post it seems to indicate this. Suspension has to be one of the most facinating technological subjects of all time. Its one of those subjects you cant ever truely master. Anyway - great forum.

Hi and welcome Lush. Glad to hear you are enjoying the big twin, and not so surprising that you want more from its handling, and the GSXR Penske should be a good choice or platform to start from. I should imagine that you will need to run it on some more ride height inducing length, as I seem to recall there being around 7mm length difference.. You may well also find that you need to confirm the spring to be strong enough, the 600s run a 50-75 pound softer spring than the litres.

Get it, do it, have fun!!!..... and then do those KYB fork cartridges, they really need attention!!

I don't know about the 1000, but I have a GSXR600K4 shock in my 2003 SV650. The 650 shock is 330mm, the K2 600 is 325.5 and the K4 600 332.5... the Penske probably has enough adjustment. If you go to www.ohlins.com they usually list the length of the shock for each bike.

I've just fitted a 9.5kg/mm spring to the SV and it's way better that the K4's 8.4... I think the K2 is more like a 7.5, so if the 1000 has similar ratio to the 650 you'll need lots more spring. Don't suppose you kept any R6 springs?
